## In brief

- Trump hosted AI and tech CEOs at a White House “Super Intelligence Luncheon” on Tuesday
- Musk sat to Trump’s left and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang to his right; Apple was not represented
- OpenAI’s Greg Brockman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei sat several seats from the president
- Trump said he would rename AI “Super Intelligence” by executive order at 5 p.m
- Executives signed a “morally binding” self-regulation agreement, Zuckerberg told reporters

President Donald Trump hosted the leaders of most major artificial intelligence labs and technology companies at a “Super Intelligence Luncheon” at the White House on Tuesday.

A seating chart for the lunch showed Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk seated to Trump’s left and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to his right, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google CEO Sundar Pichai each one seat removed from the president, according to Business Insider. CNBC reported that Trump posted the seating chart to his Truth Social account.

Representatives of two other large AI labs, OpenAI and Anthropic, sat further away. OpenAI was represented by its president, Greg Brockman, who sat across the table and five seats down from Trump. CEO Sam Altman was absent, continuing a series of media appearances for the company’s DevDay event, according to Business Insider.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sat closer to Trump than Brockman. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei sat six seats down, near the end of the table, further from the president than the CEOs of chipmakers Broadcom and Micron. Tom Brown, who acted as an emissary for Anthropic during negotiations with the government, sat on the opposite side of the table at its end.

Anthropic has had a difficult relationship with the Trump administration, according to Business Insider.

Amazon was represented by its founder and executive chairman, Jeff Bezos, rather than CEO Andy Jassy. Other guests included Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora, ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott, “All-In” podcast co-host Chamath Palihapitiya, Palantir CEO Alex Karp and Palantir chief technology officer Shyam Sankar.

Apple was not represented. Neither former CEO Tim Cook nor current CEO John Ternus was listed as a guest, as the company works to catch up in AI development, according to Business Insider.

## Renaming and a signed agreement

The lunch began at 12:30 p.m. It took its name from “Super Intelligence,” the proposed new name for AI that Trump announced last week. After the lunch, Trump said he would formally rename artificial intelligence “Super Intelligence” by executive order at 5 p.m., and said he had signed a “morally binding” agreement with the technology leaders.

The White House later released a document on the signed order, according to [NBC News](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-host-summit-top-ai-leaders-washington-rcna599853). NBC reported that Trump called for “tremendous self-regulation” by AI companies after the meeting.

[CNN reported](https://www.cnn.com/2026/09/29/business/amodei-huang-karp-trump) that the executives signed a commitment to “self-police” the technology, and that Trump praised the CEOs who attended while dismissing concerns about the dangers of the fast-developing technology.

> “We drafted a set of principles and commitments around building robust internal controls and detecting if there are any issues with the technology, coupled with multiple layers of auditing and controls, starting with internal risk review, external auditors and evaluators, and agreeing that we’re going to have all of our boards of directors independently review the reports that come from the auditors,” Zuckerberg told reporters.
