## In brief

- Russian strikes killed at least four in Kyiv and the surrounding region, including a child, Ukrainian officials said
- Zelenskyy said the overnight barrage hit energy facilities and disrupted electricity supplies in and around the capital
- Qatar’s prime minister told Piers Morgan that whoever is responsible for Gaza is a “war criminal”
- A Yemeni teacher displaced to Taiz told Al Jazeera his family no longer eats three meals a day
- A Ukrainian orphan said he was forcibly transferred to occupied Crimea and coerced into pro-Russian campaigns

Russian attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding region killed at least four people, including a child, overnight into Wednesday, Ukrainian officials said.

Three people were killed in the capital and a child in the surrounding region, city officials and emergency services said, according to Al Jazeera. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the overnight barrage targeted energy facilities, damaging the power grid and disrupting electricity supplies in and around the capital, as Moscow continued a weeks-long bombardment of Kyiv.

## Qatar’s prime minister

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said on Tuesday that whoever is responsible for the situation in Gaza is a “war criminal”, in an interview with the programme *Piers Morgan Uncensored*. He made the comment in answer to a question about the nature of Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, and said Doha would continue to uphold diplomacy and mediate for peace in the Middle East.

## Yemen’s displaced

In Yemen, Mohamed Saed, a 46-year-old teacher, has not received a salary in years and lives with his wife and five children in a single room in Taiz, more than a year behind on rent, Al Jazeera reported. Displaced three or four times since the war began, he told the outlet his children still call him to the table and he tells them he is already full, even when he has gone without food.

Fresh fighting has redrawn front lines after more than a decade of war, deepening hunger and displacement, according to the outlet, which noted families such as Saed’s no longer eat three meals a day.

## An orphan’s account

Al Jazeera separately reported the account of Denys Kostev, who was 18 and living in an orphanage in Kherson when Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. After filming social media videos criticising the invading forces, he was forcibly transferred to occupied Crimea, the outlet reported from Kyiv.

Kostev said he was then coerced into pro-Russian campaigns before escaping, telling Al Jazeera: “I wanted to live.”
