## In brief

- Recent PlayStation 5 titles, including Astro Bot and Demon’s Souls, now run on generic PCs via emulation
- SharpEmu lists 10 tested games as playable, six of them fully playable at 60 frames per second
- KytyPS5, an expansion of a PS4 emulator, released its first public version last week
- Sony has said it will scale back bespoke PC ports of PlayStation games

PlayStation 5 games once locked to Sony’s console, including Astro Bot and the Demon’s Souls remaster, are now running at playable frame rates on ordinary PCs, as two emulators report rapid progress this week.

For years, PC players got recent PlayStation titles only when a publisher paid for a dedicated port — something Sony has said it plans to scale back. Emulator developers are closing that gap instead. SharpEmu, the first of the current PS5 emulators, has gone from what its creator called a “very early alpha stage” in May to a build that can, in its own description, “load the eboot.bin of real games, execute native CPU instructions, and partially handle GPU-related functionality.”

The latest release lists 10 tested games at a “playable” state, six of them “fully playable at 60 fps,” according to the developer, who goes by CursedIfElse. The list runs from a simple 2D title like Tetris Forever to 3D games such as Astro Bot and the PS5 remaster of Demon’s Souls.

“SharpEmu has prioritized hardware accuracy from the very beginning, and we’re finally starting to see that investment pay off,” CursedIfElse wrote on social media this week. “It was built completely from scratch, and this is how far we’ve come.”

A second emulator arrived while SharpEmu was logging those gains. KytyPS5, a major expansion of the PlayStation 4-focused emulator Kyty, put out its first public version last week. According to its GitHub page, it “can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D games, including titles built with Unreal Engine 4/5, Unity, and custom engines.”
